I upgraded my old Android tablet to a Microsoft Surface running Windows 8. The problem is that it is designed mainly for the Start screen and full-screen apps from the Windows Store. Touch is not so useful on the Desktop; in fact, it's downright awkward. However, there is a way to make touch work better on the Desktop.

TouchMousePointer
is a sort of virtual trackpad, which lets you use the Surface or tablet
much more easily. It’s free, and everyone I have shown it to has liked
it.
