I have a contact form on my website which a shoe retailer recently started using to send me promotional emails on a regular basis. I thought whoever was responsible must have used special software to do this (rather than tasking an employee with trawling random websites in search of contact forms), so I decided to make a change to my form in an attempt to stop the program in its tracks.

Using a drop- down menu in your contact
form can help stop automated spam
All I did was add a mandatory question containing a choice of three
answers in a drop-down menu. Because the shoe retailer's software was
unable to select one of the options, I immediately stopped receiving any
contact from the company.
