Sometimes Windows 8 will just not shut down and you want to avoid the hard shutdown of the computer. The best option is to proceed as follows: First close all programs manually. Some programs are in the idle state or some invisible processes are generated in the background.
If this does not solve the problem then open the command prompt by pressing the key combination [Windows] + [R] and try to shutdown the PC with the command “shutdown -s -t 1”. We also recommend checking the computer using a virus scanner. Perhaps a malware is prevent it from shutting down.
Check the same with the help of the Task Manager and terminate the corresponding processes and applications. Remove the connected USB devices like external hard disks and USB sticks from your PC as they may prevent the shutdown. Disable the Hybrid Boot also. For this, open “Control Panel”, click on “System and Security” and select “Power Options”. Select “Choose what power buttons should do” and then “Some settings are not currently available”. Subsequently, remove the check mark for “Activate quick start” under “Settings for Shutdown”.

If your Windows 8 computer still does not shutdown then the only option remains is to contact the Microsoft customer service and describe your problem to them in details.
