It doesn’t matter if it’s a smartphone or an MP3-player - a loose contact in the headphone jack greatly reduces the music and video experience. The problem can actually be resolved without sending the device for repair. First check whether the problem occurs with other headphones as well. Alternatively you can also test the headphones on another device.
If there is really a loose contact in the headphone jack, then this may
have various causes. Dust in the headphone jack is often the problem
which blocks the contact. This, for example, may happen if the device is
carried in pants pockets without a cover. Maybe the device fell down,
thus damaging the jack. This mostly translates into a loose contact.
Even water penetration can damage the contacts in the jack.
Loose contacts in the headphones can often be fixed
with a few simple steps
There are two methods that can be of help while rectifying this loose
contact. Please note that you must handle the device carefully and not
cause any further damage and risk voiding the warranty. Bend a paper
clip with a protective layer and insert it carefully into the jack.
Then turn and wiggle it and remove the lump of dust from the opening.
Use a special contact spray to remove stubborn stains. Spray a small
quantity into the jack and invert the device immediately on its head.
Wait till the jack is completely dry before you test it again. If dirt
does not seem to be the problem, then it’s time to take it to a
professional expert.
